Etiquette
To honor the sacredness of your practice, make sure you arrive a few minutes early to sign in and set up your mat. Allow a few minutes to quiet and center yourself. Arriving late can compromise your experience and can disturb your fellow classmates.
If you do arrive late, please enter very quietly and sit. Remain quiet until after the initial ‘centering in the breath ‘segment is over, before you unroll your mat and set up for class.
To allow you to feel your connection to Earth, be prepared to practice barefoot and to feel the freedom of movement, wear loose/stretchy comfortable clothes for all classes.
Yoga is your own personal practice, it is an inward journey. Keep casual conversation to a minimum and direct your focus on your own practice. Silence helps to create a beautifully meditatively atmosphere for everyone.
Mats and props are provided, although it is highly recommended that you own your own. Owning your own mat, is not for sanitary reasons only, but your mat becomes the very precious, sacred ground in which your healing and transformation takes place. It becomes your magic carpet that allows you to fly!! If you do use one of the studio mats, please use sanitized wipes provided to wipe the mat down.
Students who do bring their own mats, please consider putting your name in permament black marker, in blocked letters on the front edge of your mat. If your mat gets left behind, we can easily return it to you. Also, this can assist teachers in learning your name!
Thank you for putting all props neatly back in the storage spaces.
Arrive with an empty stomach. It is recommended to not eat a large meal 2 hours prior to a class. You also may want to bring your own water. We do provide water bottle for a donation.
Yoga is about removing blocks that hinder energy from freely flowing through our bodies. Jewelry holds energy and generally blocks the free flow of energy through our limbs. Please remove unnecessary jewelry.
Perfumes and heavily scented detergents trigger allergies and are best left at home.
Breathing is the very heart of the practice of yoga. Chewing gum tenses the jaw and mouth. So, please no gum chewing or candy in class.
Yoga is about uniting our mind, body and spirit. Please allow yourself to be “unplugged” from your cell phone or pager while you are here. If you must be available for an incoming call, please put your phone on vibrate and take all phone conversations outside of the practice room.
Many students experience profound shifts in their being during Shavasana ( relaxation), so, please be still as to not disturb others. If you know you need to leave early, tell your teacher and please set up your mat close to the door and leave before shavasana, not during. Leave your props and we will put them up for you.
If you have any injuries or limitations, please let your instructor know BEFORE class begins. Always get your physician’s approval before engaging in any physical activity such as yoga.
Beginners may want to start with the Beginners, Restorative, Gentle, Yin, or Simply Yoga (level one). Tai Chi and Gentle Flow are appropriate for beginners as well.
Most teachers offer “hands on” adjustments to help you find freedom in your poses. If you are uncomfortable with this, please let your teacher know before class.
Children under 15 may accompany their parent in the practice. If under 18, a parent’s signature is needed prior to practicing.
Listen to your own body. Let go of your need to feed your ego and just have fun feeding your soul! We invite you to step into a vibrant, playful practice of yoga that inspires, empowers and encourage fun!
Remember, breathe! and smile and have FUN!!
